Sailors on the CitizenShip - Discovering
Africa
On the base of the concept of Sailors on the CitizenShip,
captains Kasia, Marco and Ondrej developed a one year project
that aims on exchange of realities of European and African youth
work.
Discovering Africa was supported within actuon 3.2 of the
Youth in Action program and the project is implemented from
1.12.2009 to 1.12.2010. Partnership of the project is based
on 4 European ngos from Estonia, Germany, Czech Republic and
Poland. And on 4 African ngos from the Republic of South Africa,
Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.

OBJECTIVES
In brief, our main objectives are:
- equipping youth leaders, trainers and educators with
educational tools which will support them in
motivating young people to be active,
- training and developing key competences for active
participation (ability to speak up your own mind,
critical thinking, entrepreneurship),
- pointing out the connection between citizenship,
responsibility for one‘s immediate environment and
society and active participation,
- experiencing, discussing and sharing historical and recent
understandings of citizenship and its
implications for participation,
- approaching different levels of citizenship (local –
national – international - global),
- sharing different visions and understandings of citizenship,
- exchanging good practices of young people involvement in
Africa and in Europe,
- rising awareness about young people’s involvement in civic
society,
- developing sustainable network among partner organizations
and among practitioners from all countries
involved,
- promoting participation of young people in societies.
- making citizenship attractive and sexy to the youth by
experiencing it in practice using metaphors,
simulations, case studies and sharing good practices,
- Pointing out different possibilities for involvement on
local, national, European and global level,
- Reflecting on the process of the uniting Europe and current
situation in Africa, its underlying values, and
its future from the perception of today’s youth,
- developing the Sailors toolbox of methods used for
citizenship issues in the field of youth work,

FORSEEN
ACTIVITIES:
• PREP MEETING, February 2010 (South Africa)
Aim: to give a chance for partners to get to know each other
face to face, to strengthen the network, to develop detailed
working plan, to divide tasks
Participants: Coordinator of the partner organization
• TRAINING 1 & STUDY VISITS, June 2010 (Tanzania)
Aim: to train and develop competences of active participation,
to equip participants with tools that will help them to
motivate young people to be active (7 working days), to get
to know good practices of projects developed by organizations
in Africa (2 working days).
Participants: 3 per country in total: 24 participants, youth
workers, youth leaders, youth trainers.
• TRAINING 2 & STUDY VISITS, October 2010 (Germany)
Aim: to train and develop competences of active participation,
to equip participants with tools that will help them to
motivate young people to be active (7 working days), to get
to know good practices of projects developed by organizations
in Europe (2 working days).
Participants: 3 per country in total: 24 participants, youth
workers, youth leaders, youth trainers.
• EVALUATION MEETING, November 2010 (Estonia)
Aim: to sum up and evaluate the whole project
Participants: Coordinator of the partner organization
OUTPUTS
- 48 multipliers trained, able to use new methods in their
work
- Publication with methods and good practices available also
online
- Website – with online toolbox, blog and so on. |
Discovering Africa is now closed for partners and
participants. After the prep meeting in South Africa we will
inform you about further development of the project. |
